Artist's Description

I painted this picture outdoors on a crisp fall day. Me and eleven other artists were enjoying the 2011 Plein Air Artist Retreat on Gregg Caudells ranch up the San Poil River valley. The landscape in this area was scoured by hundreds of massive floods that carried such huge boulders in glacial ice when the Missoula Ice Dam would break every so many thousands of years. In hours everything in this area was drowned in tons of water. This boulder is about ten feet tall and at least that wide.
