Out where we have a cabin on Lake Roosevelt there are still a few very old barns. This one I painted on site late in the summer. The long hand cut boards are weathered and bending. The rusted roof still holds on even thought the joists are sagging and warped. I love these old buildings and always wonder who built them . I wonder if they housed horses and cows and if the people came to feed them every morning and evening. Old and neglected now these wooden structures are doomed to be replaced by corrugated pole buidings.
I began working as an artist at the age of two. Unable to resist the siren's call of a large canvas. The newly papered dining room was just screaming for a rainbow band of color about three feet up the wall. So I opened my box of crayons, pressed their tips firmly against the unblemished wallpaper and ran around the room as fast as I could, as many times as I could. I sensed that my work may not be appreciated. It wasn't. But it looked great! It took some time before my parents recognized my talent but I kept working with every medium available.
